Just hours after the blaze that razed homes in Parola Compound, Barangay 275, Binondo, Manila, was put under control on May 24, 2026, the Administration of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ), through the Ecclesiastical District of Manila, distributed relief packages to those affected.
Aimed at helping Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members and nonmembers alike, the Care For Humanity event dedicated to the fire victims was led by Brother Wilson R. Cayago, district supervising minister.
Relief packages given contained basic necessities. “I received important help from the Church. The food and clothing will help me cope with the succeeding days,” said a recipient, Gerald Santos. Also a nonmember, Cherion Sarion said, “I’m happy and amazed by the Church’s response. I witnessed how quickly you provided help to us who are in dire need.”
Terisita Baraquiel, a finance officer in the Local Congregation of Binondo, whose household was also among those affected, said, “I thank the Lord God for saving us. During the fire, I prayed to Him to rescue us from the impending danger and He did. That fortified my resolve to serve Him no matter what. I also thank the Church Administration for the immediate help that we received.”
According to the Manila District leadership, they will continue to not only monitor their brethren’s and fellowmen’s welfare but also relay additional help if necessary as more than 2,500 families have been affected by the fire as per reports. — With assistance from Bernard Martinez
