“When news about the earthquake here in Japan broke out, the Church Administration instructed us right away to extend aid to the brethren and our fellowmen who were affected,” shared Brother Manny Benedicto. “We do this to give glory to God, fulfill His will to love our fellowmen, and let them feel our love and care.”

On August 6, 2026, a few days after the magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture in southwestern Japan, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) through the Ecclesiastical District of Nagoya, Japan, extended aid to affected Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) .

This Care for Humanity event was held first at Miyamoto Farm in Yatsushiro City, then again at the worship building of Kumamoto Extension in Kumamoto City. Brother Benedicto, district supervising minister, led both on the same day.

A total of 100 relief packages containing food items and other essential supplies were given in each of the venues.

Ella, one of the recipients, shared, “I am thankful for the aid that we received. We were provided with food and water which is primarily needed especially now that there is not enough food and water supply in the area.”

Jada Boco, choir member from Kumamoto Extension, expressed, “I am truly happy for the Church Administration remembered us OFWs.”

“I am thankful to the members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo because even if they don’t know us personally, still, they helped us,” stated Myra, one of the recipients. “We really appreciate your love and care for us.”— With reports from Chuck Swank
