Just days after Hurricane Lala pummeled Big Island, Hawaii, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) extended aid to the hurricane’s victims through a series of Care For Humanity events on August 25 to 27, 2026.

These socio-civic activities took place at the Naalehu Congregation house of worship (August 25), Samuel Raquel Residence in Honokaa and Hilo Congregation place of worship (August 26), and Keaau Congregation house of worship’s function hall (August 27).

Brother Gem H. Baitan, district supervising minister, together with assistant supervising minister, Brother Adorado Apostol, and fellow ministers constituting the district leadership, led the giving of relief packages. These contained rice, potable water, nonperishable food, rechargeable flashlights, among other everyday essentials. Over a hundred packages were distributed.

“We are so thankful because we felt that the Church Administration always remembers us, really cares for our welfare and for the people in our community,” enthused Joana Sabas, recipient from Naalehu Congregation.

“What we went through is a terrible experience. However, from what we have seen among the brethren, this kind of experience still turned out for our own good as it has made us to all the more trust in and rely on our Almighty God,” attested Brother Ryan Barnachea, resident ministerial worker of Naalehu Congregation.

“The Care for Humanity, under the Felix Y. Manalo (FYM) Foundation, is a big outreach arm for the community. It is a token of love of the Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo Manalo, for the brethren. To the nonmembers, it opens their knowledge, as well as their outlook, about the Church Of Christ—that this is the true Church, and it follows the biblical teaching of loving our fellowmen,” said Brother Apostol. — With reports from Brian Aniciete
