Just two weeks after Care for Humanity events were held by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) for quake victims in Davao Occidental, Philippines, two more outreach activities were held during the first week of July 2026, this time benefiting residents of Nuing and Mahayahay, communities in the towns of Jose Abad Santos and Malita, respectively. The INC, through the Ecclesiastical District of Davao Occidental, distributed a total of 3,000 relief packages to residents.

Led by Brother Julio dela Cruz Jr., district supervising minister, both socio-civic activities were carried out with the assistance of members of the Christian Medical Dental and Paramedical Society (CMDPS) in the district.

Nuing, Jose Abad Santos

On July 3, a Care for Humanity event was held at Ignacia Guillermo Elementary School in Barangay Nuing, Municipality of Jose Abad Santos, where many residents have been living in temporary tents since being displaced by the June 8 earthquake.

There were 2,000 relief packages distributed, each containing rice, medicines, and vitamins for both adults and children.

Since some evacuees had been suffering from colds, coughs, and fever due to the poor living conditions in the temporary shelters, in addition to pre-existing illnesses such as hypertension among some residents, a free medical check-up was also conducted. It was led by the district CMDPS officers with the assistance of the municipality’s medical officer, Dr. Rachel Jucom.

“I saw many medical practitioners who voluntarily provided free consultations and assistance during the event, and I was inspired to do my part as well. Although many organizations have extended aid in the past, the assistance provided by the Church Of Christ has been a tremendous help,” said Dr. Jucom.

Also present at the humanitarian event was Marjorie Guillermo, barangay chairwoman, who expressed her gratitude to the Church for conducting the Care for Humanity activity. On behalf of the beneficiaries, she said, “We thank the Church and its leadership for helping the residents of all the sitios in our barangay move forward with their lives. You don’t know how happy we are to have you here.”

Mahayahay, Malita

Two days later, on July 5, a Care for Humanity event was conducted at Mahayahay National High School in Barangay Mahayahay, Malita, Davao Occidental. During the event, volunteer brethren distributed 1,000 relief packages to the residents. A free medical check-up was also provided for the beneficiaries.

One of them, Gina Montalvo, shared, “Many people may remember the viral video showing the students and teachers here in Mahayahay conducting their flag ceremony when the earthquake struck. It was a traumatic experience, but with the help of many people, including the members of the Church Of Christ, we have been able to move forward with our lives.”

Genevieve Elicor, the school head, expressed her appreciation for the assistance extended by the Church. She said, “Life was already difficult for the people here even before the earthquake struck. Then the calamity came, making their situation even harder. We are grateful to the Iglesia Ni Cristo because, despite our differences in religion, you were willing to help us and made us feel valued.”

“Under the leadership of the Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, the Iglesia Ni Cristo continues extending help to people through the Care for Humanity program. We find joy in helping those who are in need in accordance with the command of God,” explained Brother dela Cruz.

The INC first held Care for Humanity events in Davao Occidental after the June 8 tremblor on June 15, at the compounds of houses of worship of every local congregation and extension in the Ecclesiastical District of Davao Occidental, and again, on June 16 at four sites namely, Caburan, San Isidro, Bario Bukid, and Butulan.— With reports from Epejie Corporal and INC News media; Photos from INC News and Updates
