A week after the Local Congregation of Keaau—the first congregation of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) established in Big Island, Hawaii—reached its 55th anniversary, brethren there attended a special gathering on June 13, 2026 commemorating the milestone anniversary at their house of worship.

Officiated by Brother Gem H. Baitan, Hawaii-Pacific District supervising minister, the occasion was also attended by brethren from the neighboring local congregations of Hilo, Honokaa, Kailua-Kona, and Naalehu.

During his Bible-based preaching, Brother Baitan emphasized that this memorable event is a living testament to the works of the Almighty God and continuous blessings He bestows on the congregation. Brother Baitan also highlighted how the congregation, from its humble beginnings, has reached its 55th anniversary and contributed to the establishment of many local congregations.

In 1969, the brethren in the Big Island were first registered under the Honolulu Congregation. Two years later, through the grace and mercy of God, the Church Administration approved the establishment of Keaau Congregation. Their first worship service was held at the residence of Esteban Inocencio Sr.

After the special gathering, a musical program was held at the congregation’s compound to acknowledge the pioneering members. Brother Adorado Apostol, assistant district supervising minister, led the giving of recognition to the 27 pioneering members who helped establish and expand the congregation while witnessing the fulfillment of God’s promises in that part of the world. The attendees were serenaded by talented brethren who performed their rendition of INC original songs.

Among the pioneer members who received recognition were Ernie Tadeo and Carlos Lopez, head deacons of the congregation. “I am so happy that the Church Of Christ continues to grow here in the Big Island,” said Tadeo. “Whatever challenges that the brethren here may encounter, such as calamities, they remain active in their services to God,” said Lopez.

“This special gathering was held not only to commemorate the milestone anniversary of our congregation but also to further strengthen the faith of the brethren, inspire the officers in performing their duties, and most of all, give glory to our Almighty God for His guidance and protection all throughout these years,” said Brother Adel Budlong, resident minister. — With reports from Jordan Agustin
