INC gives prompt aid to Typhoon Noru victims

Date Posted: October 8, 2022

Just a couple of days after central Philippines got battered by Typhoon Noru on September 25, 2022, the Administration of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) instructed the districts in the region to provide aid to their countrymen who suffered the raging storm.

Considered to be the strongest typhoon yet to hit the Philippines this year, Karding, as it was named in that country, left a wake of devastation in Central Luzon, as well as Metro Manila.

The concerned ecclesiastical districts carried out the instruction by conducting Care for Humanity events as early as September 27 onwards to extend immediate help and relief to those affected.

September 27

Quezon City
The Care for Humanity events in this district were simultaneously held in three flood-prone barangays in Quezon City, namely Bagong Silangan, Payatas, and Commonwealth.

In Brgy. Commonwealth, it took place at the MRB Covered Court, Pilot Area, adjacent to the chapel compound of the Pilot Congregation. The one in Bagong Silangan was conducted at the barangay covered court, while the other was in the chapel compound of the Local Congregation of Payatas.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries in their barangay, Brother Siegfred Ronquillo, resident minister of the Bagong Silangan Congregation, said, “It’s such a great feeling because we were remembered by the Church Administration in these difficult times.”

“Although we aren’t members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, we still received help from the Church. So, thank you. It’s a big help for us,” expressed Josie Murillo, resident of Brgy. Payatas.

The humanitarian efforts were supervised by the district supervising minister, Brother Virgilio Del Rosario Sr.

Bulacan North
“A day after we were hit by Bagyong Karding, the Church immediately sent us the help that we needed,” said Lilia Layno, one of the beneficiaries.

Led by Brother Rainier Sabino, supervising minister, the Care for Humanity event in the Ecclesiastical District of Bulacan North was held at the district office in San Miguel.

“When we learned that the province was under Signal No. 5, we’ve already prepared the relief packages to be given out,” said Brother Sabino. “We thank Brother Eduardo V. Manalo because we felt his love through the swift assistance to our district.”

Palayan City, Nueva Ecija
There were more than 3,500 relief packages distributed to the typhoon victims in the Palayan City, Nueva Ecija District. The humanitarian event was simultaneously held in the respective chapel compounds of the local congregations of Gabaldon, Dingalan, Ibuna, Umiray, and Matawe.

Brother Luisito Rivera, district supervising minister, said, “We are blessed to have a Church Administration who truly cares for the welfare of the brethren and also to those who are not members of the Church.”

September 28

Pampanga East
In the Ecclesiastical District of Pampanga East, many brethren volunteered to prepare thousands of relief packages, which were then transported to every one of the 59 local congregation. These were then distributed by the congregations to the villagers, Church members and non-members alike.

Tarlac City, Tarlac
Conducted at the Tarlac City Congregation’s chapel compound, the brethren handed out 2,500 relief packages as Tarlac was one of the provinces in Central Luzon that was greatly devastated by the typhoon.

The relief efforts were led by Brother Emil Santiago, district supervising minister.

September 29 – 30

Quezon North
“We were devastated by the typhoon but we never felt scared because we know that God will help us through the Church Administration,” said Efren Gucilatar. He was one of the beneficiaries of the Care for Humanity event held by the Quezon North District at the chapel compound of the Real Congregation on September 29.

The following day, September 30, a delegation of ministers and ministerial workers distributed relief packages to the residents of Polillo and Jomalig Island, and of the coastal municipality of Panukalan, Quezon.

Grateful to Brother Eduardo Manalo, the Executive Minister, Brother Alex Alimon, district supervising minister, said, “We truly feel his genuine concern to us. The prompt aid that we received will surely help the brethren as many of their livelihood was affected by the typhoon.” — With reports from INC News Section

Church members, including candidates for baptism, from the local congregations of Wellington, Hutt Valley, Waikanae, and Palmerston North in the New Zealand Ecclesiastical District joined hands for a beachfront cleanup drive at Petone Beach on September 4, 2022.

Popular to many beach-goers, Petone Beach is situated in Wellington Harbour, also called Port Nicholson, the southern tip of North Island, New Zealand.

Kim Tancock, a candidate for baptism from the Wellington Congregation, was motivated to join in the activity as he “wanted to help [in the protection of] the environment.” He added, “It’s very much better to see that the shore was cleaned up.”

Representatives from the local government and the Philippine Embassy were also present during the activity.

“It’s an honor to be here,” said Josh Briggs, the City Councilor of Hutt Valley. “A huge thank you to all of the members and the leadership who organized the event and brought the community altogether, not only the Church, but also the members of the community like myself.”

Auckland City Council Members Pamela Gill and Alanah Mullin expressed their gratitude to the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members for extending their help to the environment. “We love to see you every year. I’ve been seeing you since 2009 and it’s been fantastic to connect with you doing community outreach programs,” said Mullin. Meanwhile, Gill, appreciated the Church for its “long-term support projects. So, two thumbs up to you!”

Mrs. Querobine Laccay, Philippine Embassy Chargée d’Affaires to New Zealand, shared her thoughts about the activity, “We are here represented by the embassy because we’ve found most of your initiatives very meaningful. I hope that the Church will continue to remain strong and a good example among the community, especially abroad.” — With reports from INC News Section

As a result of the intensified propagation of the words of God in Fiji, a new group worship service (GWS) of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) rose recently in this island country in the South Pacific Ocean.

Named after Ba Province in northwest Viti Levu, the country’s largest island, the Ba GWS is the second GWS in Fiji, the first one being Fiji Island. Both are under the supervision of the Ecclesiastical District of New Zealand.

Marking its official establishment, the Ba GWS’ inaugural worship service was held on September 6, 2022 at Lot 36, Vunisamaloa & Rarawai, Ba, Fiji.

Brother Dennis Dahunan, the district supervising minister, officiated at the gathering which was attended by the GWS’ pioneering members and first set of officers. He was accompanied by Brothers Benito Sumang III and Daniel Diaz, the district edification overseer and district secretary, respectively.

Vishal Pillay, one of the GWS’ pioneering brethren, said, “I’d like to acknowledge the help of the Church Administration, especially to Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, for sending ministers here to teach the proper way of serving God.”

Vishal’s wife and children are currently candidates for baptism and are scheduled to receive their respective baptisms on the following months.

Through the establishment of the newest GWS in Fiji, Brother Sumang hoped that “many more people here in the country of Fiji may come to the knowledge of the teachings of our Lord God and become members of the Church Of Christ.”

Among those who attended the inaugural worship service were guests from other localities in the island including Vunisamaloa, Koronubu, Vagia, Tavua, and Vutiyaka. — With reports from INC News Section

The Ecclesiastical District of New York, through the INCGiving charity program, donated to the Kiddie Science on September 7, 2022 for the benefit of this Brooklyn-based non-profit organization’s clientele.

It was held as part of the commemoration of the 13th anniversary of Brother Eduardo V. Manalo’s administration as Executive Minister of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) on that same date.

According to its website, Kiddie Science is a “non-profit organization that presents fun, interactive, hands-on science workshops to young children and families.”

A hundred care packages containing pens, markers, notebooks, and other school supplies essential for elementary students were donated that day by the Church through a deputation of ministers and ministerial workers, led by the assistant district supervising minister, Brother Neil Patrick Omelda. The said turn-over ceremony was held at the Kiddie Science Lab at 509 Rogers Avenue in Brooklyn, New York.

Carmen Castillo-Barret, the organization’s Executive Director, and Naomi Ritter, event coordinator, received the packages on behalf of the young children. Brian Cunningham, Assembly member of Brooklyn, was also present in the humanitarian activity.

After the event, Kiddie Science expressed on its website, “The generosity was amazing and we are still blown away by the love and care that went into each backpack.” It also posted a photo of the donated care packages, with the caption: “As the Lab space began to fill up, it was truly one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever seen!” — With reports from INC News Section

Cebu City District installs more secretariat officers

By CAYNIE RACUYA and MARK ANDRO MILAN

Date Posted: September 19, 2022

The leadership of the Ecclesiastical District of Cebu City, Cebu, in the Philippines, has recently installed additional officers to serve and help in the secretariat of their respective local congregations.

They were sworn in on September 4, 2022 during a special gathering of all congregation secretariat officers in the district, which was held at the house of worship of the Local Congregation of Tisa.

The Church’s General Secretary, Brother Rene J. Panoncillo, officiated at the sacred occasion. Preaching a Bible-based lesson, he reminded the attendees that their role in every Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) congregation’s record keeping is of great relevance and of great help to its administration. He exhorted them, thus, to be deeply devoted to the duty God gifted them as they could fully trust Him to help and guide them.

After the homily, the new secretariat officers from the 41 local congregations, 7 extensions, and 15 group worship services (GWS) of the district took their oath of office.

“With the increasing membership in the Church Of Christ comes the need for more Church officers, especially now that the propagation of God’s words by the entire Church has become all the more intensified,” said Brother Ramil Tolentino, assistant district supervising minister. “This special gathering and oathtaking are but the initial steps to guide the newly appointed secretaries as they unite with the aim of the Church Administration in keeping, reporting, and preserving Church records.” — With reports from INC News Section

“We’ve seen the worst of humanity,” but [through the Police Appreciation Activity], “we got to see the best of humanity and we know that we are appreciated with acts of kindness like this,” Joseph Carter, senior lead officer and a 15-year veteran in the LAPD, enthused.

On August 20, 2022, the Ecclesiastical District of Los Angeles (LA) County, California hosted a ‘Police Appreciation Day’ for the officers of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Mission Division assigned at the Sepulveda Blvd., Mission Hills, California.

Expressing their appreciation and recognition to the police officers’ services in maintaining peace and order in the community, the brethren handed out gift baskets filled with assorted food treats.

Moreover, “Thank You” cards creatively made by the members of the Children’s Worship Service (CWS)—one card reads “You get this ticket for being awesome”—tugged at the hearts of the police officers, bringing them joy and smiles.

“Some of the simple gestures such as like these gift baskets from the Church will go a long way. They show us that we know we’re loved by the community and our hard work is appreciated. Having these items will definitely help,” said Carter.

“It’s very heartfelt and heartwarming. To the Church Of Christ, thank you for your generosity… and all the beautiful cards and the friendly smiles,” expressed Sergeant Alexander Tan who is assigned to the Mission Division Patrol.

Emphasizing the aim of the event, Brother Dean Ancheta, North Hollywood Congregation’s resident minister, enthused, “If the law enforcement officers are doing all they can to serve the community, we also strive our best to do all of these outreach programs to them because, as what is recorded in the Bible, we should grab every opportunity to do good to our fellowmen.”

The LA County District is one of the four ecclesiastical districts in California, USA. It comprises 16 local congregations. At present, it is under the leadership of Brother Joji S. Crisostomo, the district supervising minister.

Australia West District boosts propagation efforts in Solomon Islands

By RONNIE H. MUTYA and MARCK ANGELO R. DELOS REYES

Date Posted: September 14, 2022

The leadership of the Ecclesiastical District of Australia West has undertaken efforts to intensify the propagation of the faith in Solomon Islands, an archipelagic state located about 1,400 kilometers east of Papua New Guinea (PNG).

“Our mission to propagate the gospel in Solomon Islands is part of the intensive campaign that was launched by the Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo,” said the district supervising minister, Brother Romeo E. Beltran. “So, we continue to encourage the brethren to continue doing their part in this holy endeavor, in order to intensify the works of sharing the true faith.”

On August 20 and 22, 2022, the brethren from the Lae City GWS in Papua New Guinea (PNG) brought guests to a missionary center of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) in Honiara, Solomon Islands to attend the evangelical missions organized under the direct supervision of the district leadership.

A few days before the evangelical missions, on August 18, a deputation of brethren, led by Brother Edmark Velasco, resident ministerial worker of Lae City GWS, flew in from PNG to Honiara, the capital city of Solomon Islands. Upon arrival, they distributed Pasugo: God’s Message magazines to the residents and invited them to the upcoming evangelistic event in their area.

On the said evangelical missions, the preaching of God’s words by Brother Beltran reached the islanders assembled in the missionary center through livestreaming. Also connected was the place of worship of the Lae City GWS where more guests gathered.

Meanwhile, on August 25, more guests listened to God’s words and also received care packages in an outreach-evangelical mission held at the office building of AIM Global in Capital Parks, Creek Area, Honiara City.

“Conducting this outreach-evangelical mission here in Solomon Islands brought joy to the guests. They were thankful for the expression of kindness extended by the Church Of Christ,” enthused Brother Velasco. During the propagational part of the activity, he preached about the true Church and its importance in gaining one’s salvation when the appointed day comes.

During the outreach segment of the activity, care packages, which includes basic necessities such as canned goods, several kilograms of rice, and hygiene items, were handed to the guests.

As a result of the series of propagational activities, a number of Honiara residents are attending Bible studies on the basic teachings of the Bible upheld by the Church Of Christ.

“We have Church Of Christ members who found employment in Honiara and, with their help and support, we were able to conduct these propagational activities,” said Brother Velasco. “Through the guidance of our beloved Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, we will continue to intensify the works of propagation in this part of Oceania. It is our hope that, with God’s help, a local congregation will be established there.”— With reports from INC News Section, Quiza Quiñola, Bunny Quiñola, and Jonee Quiñola

Bacolod City District inducts 1,000 Church officers for 73rd anniversary

By FINLEY SANGLITAN and MARK ANDRO MILAN

Date Posted: September 12, 2022

The Ecclesiastical District of Bacolod City, Negros Occidental inducted 1,066 additional Church officers during a special gathering in commemoration of the district’s 73rd anniversary.

Brother Rene J. Panoncillo, the Church’s General Secretary, officiated at the holy occasion held on August 26, 2022.

The district-wide event took place at the 8,000-seater Victorias Sports and Amusement Center along Osmeña Highway, Brgy. XIII, Victorias City, Negros Occidental, as brethren from the 43 local congregations, 12 extensions, and 16 Group Worship Service (GWS) in the district, were in attendance.

In his Bible-based homily, Brother Panoncillo reminded the brethren about the qualities God seeks from Church officers. Afterwards, Brother Antonio Doydoy, the district overseer in edification, administered the oath taking of the new officers. Among those who took oath were new deacons, deaconesses, choir members, and officers in the Christian Family Organizations (CFO).

“Being a Church officer has brought me closer to God. There were and there will still be difficulties, but God is merciful. When we entrust to Him our worries by means of prayer, He will help us make it through; He did to me,” Elyssa Reese Pontino, a choir member and the Binhi vice president of the Local Congregation of Bacolod City, attested.

“We are joyful that the aim of the Church Administration for more brethren to come forward and accept duties in the Church to be of help in taking care of the brethren is being realized here in our district. This oathtaking is a testament to that. Praise be to God!” said Brother Doydoy. — With reports from INC News Section

Five-city ‘Care for Humanity’ tour in Canada concludes in Red Deer City

By ROSE LHYN E. GAVIOLA and MARK ANDRO T. MILAN

Date Posted: September 7, 2022

The Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) has completed the series of “Care for Humanity” events in Canada scheduled for the whole month of August.

Carried out under the auspices of the Felix Y. Manalo (FYM) Foundation, Inc., the humanitarian arm of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, the series of the socio-civic event benefited five cities in five Canadian provinces.

The last of the outreach series took place at Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre Arena in Red Deer, a city located midway of the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor, Alberta, on August 21.

The first four were held in Montreal, Quebec on August 7; Toronto, Ontario on August 12; Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 14; and Vancouver, British Columbia on August 19.

The Care for Humanity event in Red Deer City, hosted by the ecclesiastical districts of Calgary and Edmonton, started with a video presentation introducing the Church Of Christ.

Afterwards, brethren-volunteers led by ministers and ministerial workers from the host districts handed out more than 2,000 care packages to the beneficiaries.

In addition, four local charitable organizations, namely, The John Howard Society of Red Deer, Catholic Social Services, The Mustard Seed, and the CARE for Newcomers, each received from the Church a cheque worth 2,000 Canadian dollars.

City leaders observed that the holding of the humanitarian activity proved timely as food insecurity has continued to be felt, even in Canada.

“Not only historic, monumental, but also much needed. Because many, many people are thinking that, ‘Oh, Canada is a first world country and this is not needed in this place,” said Rosman Valencia, New Democratic Party (NDP)-Calgary East Nominee. “However we do; and the Church Of Christ is filling the gaps of poverty here, making sure that there’s help. This is such an important work and please do continue. Mabuhay po kayo (‘Long live’)!”

Bruce Buruma, deputy mayor of Red Deer, who was present in the activity, said, “All people working towards such a good cause are really valuable. You, as a faith community, came together to make this possible. And it’s making an impact across our community. So we are grateful.”

This outreach tour was part of the celebration of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ)’s golden anniversary in Canada, for which leaders and representatives of the said charities extended greetings. “On your birthday, you are giving presents out to the community. So, thank you so much for blessing us this way,” said Tyler Hildebrandt, development specialist of The Mustard Seed.

“The Iglesia Ni Cristo has been able to conduct these large-scale Care for Humanity events across Canada through the help and guidance of the Almighty God. This will certainly not be the last one,” said Brother Rolando Gaviola, Calgary District supervising minister. — With reports from INC News Section

Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members from various local congregations in the Ecclesiastical District of Northwest California joined hands to help keep Pacifica Beach off the Pacific Coast Highway in California, USA litter-free.

In collaboration with Pacific Beach Coalition, an all-volunteer based organization, the brethren on August 13, 2022 cleared the favorite summer getaway, better known to surfers as Linda Mar Beach, of trash and debris, which they then properly disposed of.

For the brethren’s united efforts at the said environmental action, current council member and former mayor of Daly City, Juslyn Manalo, presented a certificate of recognition to the Church.

Part of the certificate reads, “Thank you for community service for the communities and neighborhoods you serve in. Also for your commitment to environmental sustainability and justice. I wish you nothing but the best and blessings in all your endeavor.” —  With reports from Northwest CA Multimedia
