Binhi members from the Ecclesiastical District of Bataan, Philippines, learned about artificial intelligence (AI), its ethics, and responsible use during a seminar at the house of worship of the Local Congregation of Daang Bago on March 29, 2025.
Paolo Datu from the Hermosa Local Congregation, an information technology professional, served as the resource speaker. Providing insight about AI, its uses and applications, he discussed to the attendees AI ethics, explaining factors such as bias and fairness, transparency and explainability, privacy, accountability, and human values.
For the responsible use of AI, Datu elaborated to the young members related topics, such as designing inclusivity, securing data, continuous monitoring, fostering human oversight, and educating users.
“I’ve learned that AI isn’t just about chatbots—it includes robots and even social media, and it’s crucial to use it responsibly and ethically to protect my rights,” said choir member Ashley Morales from the Luacan Congregation. “AI is useful for me because it speeds up tasks and helps me better understand lessons that are confusing to me. I will use AI wisely to safeguard most especially my Church membership.”
Concluding the seminar, district Christian Family Organizations (CFO) overseer Brother Jerson Galvez gave biblical counsel to the Binhi members, reminding them to be cautious and wise in using modern knowledge, such as AI. For, he added, while AI offers significant benefits, it also comes with risks if not used properly.
“This activity aims to guide and protect the Church’s youth as technology and knowledge rapidly advance in the world,” Brother Galvez said in an interview. “The Church Administration wants us to make wise and careful decisions, such as when young people use social media, so that they do not fall into mistakes that could harm their future, especially their salvation.” — With reports from Annabele Penuliar
