Led by officers of Christian Family Organizations (CFO) and societies, brethren from the Ecclesiastical District of Surigao Del Norte took part in a series of activities held across the month of August 2026.
“All of the activities were held as part of our efforts to strengthen the faith of the brethren, while making sure that family members have quality time with each other, and that their bonds with fellow brethren are all the more fortified,” Brother Melchor Flora Jr., district CFO overseer, said in an interview.
SCAN EFR training and seminar
On August 6-8, 2026, Society of Communicators and Networkers International (SCAN) members from various local congregations gathered at the Tagana-an Gymnasium for a three-day Emergency First Responders (EFR) training and seminar.
During the said event, Michael Redondiez and Roselito Enlahosta, SCAN officers from Bayugan City, of the neighboring district of Agusan del Sur, discussed and demonstrated proper first aid application and basic life support techniques.
District SCAN chairperson, Redin Pepito, explained, “This activity aims to reinforce the knowledge and skills of SCAN members in saving lives especially during times of calamities that, as we can see, become even more severe these recent days.”
INC Unity Games
Brethren from congregations constituting the Claver and Alegria areas assembled for the INC Unity Games in their respective areas. Those from the former held the event on August 15 at Ladgaron Gymnasium in Claver, while those from the latter held theirs on August 29 at Mainit Gymnasium in Mainit.
Among the sports events which the brethren took part in were basketball, volleyball, darts, chess, badminton, and table tennis. Those who won in their respective categories will proceed to the upcoming district finals.
“I am happy for I was able to take part in this activity,” enthused Pedro Amarille, head deacon from Gigaquit Congregation. In another interview, Antonio Deguia, head deacon from Tubod Congregation, stated that the activity “brought joy to me and my household, and strengthened our bond with fellow brethren.”
Coastal clean-up
On August 21, 2026, brethren from congregations and extensions in Siargao Island convened for a coastal clean-up drive at the Baybay Beach in Burgos.
Led by Brother Tagumpay E. Nual, district supervising minister, and ministers composing the district leadership, groups of brethren spread along a stretch of the said beach, properly disposing rubbish and debris.
“I took part in this activity for I want to help maintain the cleanliness and beauty of this island’s coastlines,” shared Fregie Retita, local Buklod president of Cancohoy Congregation. Meanwhile, Maryjane Egot, choir member from Cancohoy Congregation, explained that “through this, we do our part in alleviating the pollution in this area.”
CEA team building
Capping the series of activities in the district, on August 30, members of the Christian Employees Association (CEA) gathered for a team building activity. It was held at Hinlongan Resort in Barangay Hayanggabon, Claver.
After Brother Nual delivered his opening remarks, the participants took time to further know and enjoy the company of each other through team games such as pass the ball and giant volleyball.
Ever Solloso, district CEA president, explained that the activity was held “to further reinforce the bond among the brethren, and encourage them to become more active and responsible members” of the said society. — With reports from Aljun Amarille
