“This activity aims to add knowledge and skills to us SCAN officers and members so we can save people’s lives,” said Dindo Mendoza, SCAN district president.
On August 16, 2026, over a hundred officers and members of the Society of Communicators and Networkers International (SCAN) from the various local congregations in the Ecclesiastical District of Marikina, Philippines, attended a basic life support seminar. The activity was held at Star Gym Covered Court in Nangka, Marikina.
The activity began with an opening prayer led by Mendoza. Then, Gamaliel Masangkay, SCAN officer and responder, led the demonstration of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Foreign Body Airway Obstruction. He taught the attendees vital hands-on skills in emergency responses, focusing on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and practical techniques to assist choking victims, both infants and adults.
After the demonstration, the participants were divided into four groups for a hands-on workshop facilitated by SCAN responders. Through the workshop, the participants were able to apply what they have learned from the seminar.
“I am happy, for I’ve been a part of this activity of SCAN,” enthused Carmela Eliot, SCAN member from Bayan-bayanan Congregation. “I have learned many things from the seminar and workshop that I can use as I fulfill my duty, especially during emergency medical situations,” said Aizel Anne Orsal, SCAN member from the same congregation.
Virgilio Timbas, SCAN district vice president, led the closing prayer. The participants then were given certificates from the SCAN district leadership for their participation in the said activity. — With reports from Claidenn Villar
