For days on end, various places across Luzon, the Philippines experienced torrential rains brought about by the southwest monsoon that was intensified by tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay.

Aware of their fellowmen’s plight, Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members led by the Society of Communicators and Networkers, International (SCAN) members offered help.

On August 10-11, 2026, various districts mobilized them in rescue missions where needed and in providing relief packages to fellow members as well as nonmembers.

“The rain has been continuous here for a week now,” shared Minda Loyola, a resident of Cavite. “It’s been on day and night, accompanied by strong winds. The floodwaters have reached up to our thighs and eventually entered our house.”

“We couldn’t leave our house because the water right in front of our home was too deep,” remarked Ernesto Landicho, also from Cavite. “We were stranded inside our own home for almost a week.” Among those rescued, Lucita Villamor shared, “My family and I evacuated to the Iglesia Ni Cristo house of worship because the place where we were staying was completely flooded.”

There, via the Cavite District, a total of 3,275 relief packages containing rice, canned goods, and noodles were distributed, led by Brother Eli C. Hebrew, district supervising minister.

In the Quezon City District, hundreds of recipients went to designated house of worship compounds, that of Eco Park, Bagong Silangan, and Capitol, wherein they received essential food and hygiene packages. District supervising minister, Brother Virgilio A. del Rosario Sr., led the outreach activity at Capitol.

In the Metro Manila South District, operations targeted low-lying riverside communities and low-elevation coastal zones. District supervising minister, Brother Jerick S. dela Cruz, led the distribution of relief packages to hundreds of families gathered at the Parañaque and Pamplona houses of worship, with 570 and 600 recipients, respectively.

These Lingap sa Mamamayan (Care for Humanity) events of the Church even became nationwide in scope as relief efforts were provided to more flood-hit areas. The ecclesiastical districts of Bataan and Pampanga West deployed urgent rescues to heavily submerged places.

Meanwhile, outreach activities at Buug, Zamboanga del Sur District took place earlier, August 4 and 5, when Brother Jose Salvador Jr., the district supervising minister, led in handing over at the municipalities of Bayog, Imelda, and Diplahan in Zamboanga Sibugay, respectively.

Additionally, a massive relief distribution drive was conducted across the Bulacan Ecclesiastical District, concentrating direct aid in the communities of Baliwag, Pulilan, Plaridel, Pandi, Angat, Candaba, and San Rafael. The distribution of relief packages was led by Brother Augusto Galapon, district supervising minister.
