The Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ), through its UNLAD International Incorporated and Lingap sa Mamamayan (Care for Humanity) event, extended assistance to the residents of the EVM Self-Sustaining Resettlement in Sitio New Era, Barangay Langit, Alangalang, Leyte on October 13, 2026.

UNLAD—which is “progress” or “development” in English—aptly stands for the Unified Livelihood and Advocacy for Development International, Inc. It is a non-stock, non-profit, and non-political organization within the Church Of Christ.

Led by Brother Raul V. Ramirez Sr., district supervising minister of the Ecclesiastical District of Tacloban City, Leyte, and Sister True Santos-Matias, UNLAD chairperson, the day’s program consisted of two parts: a livelihood seminar and care package distribution.

Through its UNLAD School Bus, the said organization led in conducting a free Basic Sewing and Garments Seminar for the residents. Participants underwent training and received certificates and starter kits to help them apply their newly acquired skills.

“UNLAD aims to help alleviate poverty by providing long-term livelihood opportunities and education. Through the UNLAD School Bus, we bring free seminars to underserved communities, equipping beneficiaries with skills they can use to start their own businesses or improve their qualifications for employment. We also provide free starter kits to help them apply what they have learned,” said Sister Santos-Matias.

Meanwhile, through the Care for Humanity event, the residents benefited hundreds of care packages. One of them, Danilo Tisado, said, “Thank you very much for the assistance you have given us. It means a lot to me and my family.”

“Activities such as this are carried out to fulfill the continuing instruction of our Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, to care for and help those in need, as clearly taught in the Holy Scriptures,” said Brother Ramirez. — With reports from Jem Barzaga
