Following the recently held Care for Humanity in General Santos City and Sarangani province in southern Mindanao, Philippines, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) continued extending aid to victims of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake which struck the region, this time not only in Sarangani once more but also the neighboring province of Davao Occidental.
On June 15, 2026, the socio-civic activity was held in the compounds of houses of worship of every local congregation and extension in the Ecclesiastical District of Davao Occidental, with Brother Ricky Miñoza, supervising minister, spearheading the one held at Sangay Congregation. The day after, on June 16, aid was further extended to those gathered in four sites—Caburan, San Isidro, Bario Bukid, and Butulan—which are nearer to the quake’s epicenter.
“After ensuring the safety of our brethren affected by the earthquake, our district immediately gathered and prepared relief packages which were then distributed to affected families, and many of our brethren volunteered to help in extending aid to our fellowmen,” shared Brother Miñoza.
Among the recipients was Princess Lara Camarillo from Malita Congregation who was “thankful to Brother Eduardo Manalo, the Executive Minister, for the love and compassion to the affected residents.”
Prior to the activities held in Davao Occidental District, similar ones were conducted in the Sarangani Ecclesiastical District on June 13 and 14 at the Maasim Evacuation Center at Brgy. Poblacion, Maasim, and at the house of worship compound of Calumpang Congregation, respectively. Brother Julio Dela Cruz Jr., district supervising minister, led both activities.
Through sign language, recipient Bernadette Tigwalo, deaf member from Polomolok Congregation, expressed, “I am thankful to the Church Administration for extending help to us in this time of need.” Also expressing her gratitude was nonmember Mylene Pagubasan who “felt the sincere love and concern of the Iglesia Ni Cristo towards all of their affected fellowmen.”
Overall, a total of 6,200 relief packages which include rice and canned goods were given, among others.
More than the material aid extended during the socio-civic activities was the spiritual upliftment which Church Of Christ members received through the visitations of their respective resident ministers and ministerial workers.
“Because of the aftershocks which are being felt since the earthquake struck, we instructed the resident ministers and ministerial workers in every congregation to continue visiting, giving biblical inspiration to, and praying for the brethren so that they may remain steadfast in their faith, and completely trusting in and relying on the power of God,” explained Brother Miñoza. — With reports from Al Jurada, Arjay Guimbao and Epejie Corporal
