CABA, La Union — In the hometown of Filipino hero Diego Silang, the Iglesia Ni Cristo held a coastal clean-up drive on December 28, 2024 to help save and preserve nature in this community.

INC members from the Ecclesiastical District of La Union took the opportunity to prove their unity by working together to clean the coastal area of Barangay Santiago Sur, Caba a few days before the year 2024 ended. They removed harmful waste materials including plastic debris, fishing nets and other pollutants that threaten the ocean’s biodiversity.

The activity, which began at 6 a.m., was led by the INC District Supervising Minister, Brother Jessie Capuno.

“These activities are carried out as part of the work of the Iglesia Ni Cristo to help our countrymen in the community,” Brother Jessie Capuno said.

Mr. Owen Fonbuena, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) of the Municipality of Caba, noted the heroic efforts of the INC members to help save and preserve the environment which, he said, created an impact in the community.

“This kind of activity, the coastal cleanup, is a big thing because it helps to clean up the community and [it helps] for people here to see that others are persistent in cleaning up our seashore and nature. This will have a big impact on other people to imitate [such efforts and for them to realize] that we also need to clean our coastal area,” he noted.

Brother Ynad Pascual, INC Minister, noted how hundreds of members responded to the call to participate in the activity and joined the clean-up drive.

“It is great that families came and responded to the activity launched by the Church Administration. This activity was also carried out in Gumot, Ambaracao and Naguirangan congregations,” he stated.

The Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) is a Christian religion in more than 165 countries and territories. It is composed of members from more than 150 different ethnicities and nationalities.
