Members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) in the Local Congregation Mambusao, Ecclesiastical District of Capiz, in the Philippines, actively took part in the Gulayan sa Bakuran (backyard vegetable gardening) project. It was held on August 8, 2024.

Launched by the Church Administration even before the Covid-19 pandemic, this project is aimed at promoting backyard gardening as an alternative source of food, thereby providing members with safe, fresh, and homegrown produce for their consumption.

The brethren held the said activity in the backyard of Richard Salvador, head deacon. Led by Brother Esteban Cervantes Jr, resident minister, and the Church officers, they planted various vegetables, such as eggplant, sponge gourd, string bean, and okra.

“It is important to grow crops in our own backyards, especially vegetables, as such can help us combat hunger and malnutrition amid the worsening poverty at present,” shared Joseph Felipe Miravalles, deacon.

The participants look forward to when they will harvest from their garden.
