The choral group from the Chesapeake Congregation was declared champion, during the “Songs of Salvation: Acapella Edition” competition of the Virginia Ecclesiastical District on October 12, 2024. The group sang the Iglesia Ni Cristo original music Shine As Lights.

The said musical competition was held at Chesapeake Conference Center along Conference Center Dr. in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Brother Esteban Inocencio Jr., district supervising minister; Brother Rey De Mesa, assistant district supervising minister; Rosalee Agcaoili, district choir directress; and Genesis Cruz, assistant district choir director, served as judges. The performances were evaluated based on originality, musicality, voice quality, and stage presentation.

Choristers from Raleigh, North Carolina Congregation, and Virginia Beach Congregation, with the former performing Aming Namamahala (Our Executive Minister), while the latter rendering Gathered Together, placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Each winner received trophies.

“Through music, we’re able to praise and give glory to the Almighty God, and this activity was able to promote the musical talents of our brethren in the district,” Brother Inocencio remarked. “Through the divine and dynamic leadership of the Executive Minister, we are truly inspired to conduct activities such as this.”

In an interview, Tyrone Bryant, event host from Chesapeake Congregation, explained that the activity helps “bring unity among the brethren in the district.” Meanwhile, Mylyn Hinkle, choir member from the Chesapeake Congregation, remarked that the said activity “edified” her faith. “Not only are we one in serving our Almighty God but also in strengthening our faith.” — With reports from Micah Cruz of INC News Section
