YANGON, Myanmar — A “Care for Humanity” event was recently held at the Best Western Green Hill Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar, to aid Filipino teachers affected by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in late March that had its epicenter near Mandalay. It was the strongest quake to hit Myanmar since 1912 and is considered the second most destructive in modern history. It caused widespread devastation across Myanmar, Thailand, China, and Vietnam. Over 5,400 lives were lost, thousands were injured, and many remain missing.
Iglesia Ni Cristo’s “Care for Humanity” provided cash assistance to 83 Filipino teachers. This effort symbolizes unity and compassion in adversity. Recipients deeply appreciated the support given by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC):
“We are truly grateful for your help, especially since we experienced such a traumatic event. Together with my fellow Filipinos from Mandalay, we sincerely thank the Iglesia Ni Cristo for not abandoning us,” said Ethel Fernando, one of the Filipino teachers from Mandalay.
The Filipino teachers also expressed their appreciation to INC Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo for the assistance given to them, through Brother Allan P. Gomez, the District Supervising Minister of the INC in Vietnam.
The INC remains steadfast in its mission to serve those in need, regardless of race, religion, or country. Amid the ruins and tears, dignity and hope restored.
The Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) has active Church members and congregations in more than 160 countries and territories.
