The camaraderie among Pagsamba ng Kabataan (PNK) or Children’s Worship Service (CWS), officers and members alike, from the Batac City, Ilocos Norte Ecclesiastical District, in the Philippines, was all the more strengthened through the activity Laro ng Lahi-PNK Edition. The said activity was held at the Mega Complex, Currimao in Ilocos Norte, Philippines on September 27, 2026.
Playing Laro ng Lahi or traditional Filipino games was aimed at promoting active outdoor play and real-world connections while fostering the love of brotherhood among the young members. In attendance with them were their parents who found the activity nostalgic, having played the same games during their childhood.
Brother Allan J. Ladera, district supervising minister, delivered the opening remarks. He emphasized to the youth members the importance of having interactions with people via the physical games in contrast with many today preferring their gadgets.
“Our purpose in conducting this event is to pass on a meaningful legacy to the youth, encouraging them to not spend so much time on digital screens and discover the games that brought fun to their parents during their childhood,” explained Brother Verneir Cupay, district Christian Family Organizations overseer.
Representing their respective local congregations, the children enjoyed playing traditional playground games, including patintero (block the runner), sack race, tug-of-war, kadang-kadang (coconut shell stilts), tumbang preso (knock-down-the-can), and agawan base (capturing bases). PNK officers played separate kadang-kadang matches.
“It was a joy to take part in this activity,” expressed Kathleya Mae Dela Cruz, CWS member from the Local Congregation of Paoay. “It was my first time attending activities like this. I really enjoyed meeting new friends throughout the district.”
“Aside from instilling the importance of unity, we were also able to share with our younger brethren the various games we used to play when we were younger, the joy of which we also see evident today,” remarked Krizia Mae Antalan, CWS officer from the Batac Congregation. — With assistance from Vily Ramon Ramos
