“Like everyone else, I looked forward to participating in our district’s INC Unity Games,” said Kevyn Otakan, choir member from Midtown Toronto. “It’s a lot of fun to connect with our brothers and sisters in the faith from various local congregations. Although we compete through the games, but the brethren see it more as a way to express love of brotherhood rather than actual competition.”

Around 200 Buklod, KADIWA, Binhi, and Children’s Worship Service (CWS) across Greater Toronto District, participated in INC Unity Games held at the campus grounds of the Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on July 1, 2024. Sporting events, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, and fun games brought together brethren from various local congregations.

“The Unity Games has been a wonderful avenue for brotherly love and cooperation to shine,” expressed Brother Isidro Diña, assistant district supervising minister.

Organized by district Christian Family Organizations officers, the sports activity began with a parade of colors, followed by Brother Clark Aquino, district CFO overseer, delivering the opening remarks. Afterwards, Brother Danfel Serreno, the district multimedia adviser, led the opening prayer. Brother Aquino then read the house rules and administered the oath of sportsmanship.

At the conclusion of the whole day event, the winners who received trophies and medals were as follows:

Basketball

Badminton

Women’s Singles

     Women’s Doubles

Men’s Doubles

  • Champion: GJ Legaspi and Kevin Badian (Midtown Congregation)
  • 1st runner up: Yancy Manacap and Delmarjay Tadeo (Yorkdale Congregation)

     Men’s Singles

  • Champion: Aldrin Miranda (Toronto Congregation)
  • 1st runner up: Marc Camano (Midtown Congregation)

“Supporting my friends and our local congregation in this activity is my way of expressing unity, as the name of the activity signifies. Hence, INC Unity Games not only showcases one’s talent and skills in sports but also serves as a way to edify us in the faith and strengthen bond among brethren,” said Kurt Tabula, a Technical Support for Video streaming (TSV) officer from Yorkdale Congregation.

The district is under the leadership of Brother Raul Adalla, the supervising minister. — With reports from Chantelle Santos of INC News Section
