INC continues outreach on remote islands in the Visayas provinces affected by Typhoon Odette

Date Posted: July 1, 2022

MANILA, Philippines —   The Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) continued its outreach activities, this time helping residents in remote islands in the Visayas region.

This is part of the Church’s continuing efforts to help in areas severely affected by Typhoon Odette last year.

Under the directive of INC Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, to help those in need, the INC delivered thousands of goodwill bags containing rice, canned goods, instant noodles, medicines and vitamins to  communities in remote islands in Aklan, Biliran, Cebu, Iloilo, and Samar, among others, for the whole month of June.

Last May, the INC also handed out relief packs to some 10,000 people in more than 12 venues in islands in the Visayas.

“Napakarami po dito na dapat lingapin na mga island na remote, wala po talagang access sa mga basic necessity ngunit nariyan po, napupuntahan na po natin isa-isa [There are so many remote islands here that don’t have immediate access to basic necessities but here now we visit them one by one] ...” according to Brother Glicerio P. Santos IV, INC General Auditor, who explained the continuing humanitarian efforts of the INC in the Visayas provinces during the INC outreach on Molocaboc Island, Negros Occidental, which he led.

Wilfredo Tampus was among the 1,200 beneficiaries of the INC outreach on Pangan-an Island.

He explained how the INC outreach had a positive effect on his life. He said, “Dako kaayo ni tabang sa amoa kay lisod jud ang pangabuhi diri sa isla. Usahay naay kwarta. Pag dili mi may swahi wa jud kaunon akong pamilya [This is a big help to us because life here on the island is difficult. Sometimes we have money. If we fail to catch sea urchins, my family will starve].”

Apart from the relief items, the INC provided moral upliftment through teachings from the Bible.

The INC also continues to extend a helping hand to communities affected by economic difficulties, calamities, and the current COVID pandemic.

INC members in more than 160 countries and territories strive to play an active role in their respective communities by adhering to God’s command to “do good to those who need it” (Prov. 3:27, Good News Translation).

The Iglesia Ni Cristo was registered in the Philippines on July 27, 1914 by its first Executive Minister, Brother Felix Y. Manalo.

The INC is now found in 161 countries and territories, with members from 148 nationalities and races. — Courtesy of INC Public Information Office
