Lending a Hand in Canada: Iglesia Ni Cristo holds Aid to Humanity events in several Canadian cities
MANILA, PHILIPPINES—The Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) through its charitable arm, the Felix Y. Manalo (FYM) Foundation, conducted recently a series of major outreach activities in several cities in Canada.
From May 19 to 26, the INC held a series of Aid to Humanity events in Winnipeg, Manitoba; Montreal, Quebec; Ottawa; Toronto; Edmonton; and Vancouver, British Columbia.
Thousands of INC members in 78 local congregations in seven ecclesiastical districts all over Canada gave their time and effort for the activities.
Weeks before the event, the organizers and those who were set to take part in the activities conducted devotional prayers. They also handed out invitations and coordinated with charity groups in Canada.
“The FYM Foundation coordinated with agents that help in shelters or for the less fortunate to bring many of those people here today, to give them goodwill packages filled with food, hygiene items, and even toys for kids to help in some small way for our fellow men as we were taught through the Scripture,” Brother Rod Bruno, District Minister of the Ecclesiastical District of New York said (Philippine News Canada, May 31, 1:28 p.m.)*.
Not only were care packages handed out during the events, monetary donations ranging from US$ 1,000 to 2,000 were also given to charity groups, he said.
Ms. Stephanie Connolly, Executive Director of Mom2Mom Child Poverty Initiative Society said, “This donation today by the Church Of Christ is not only supporting moms to have that social support but 1,500 dollars is actually enough to provide a grocery stipend which we provide to all of our moms to a family of five for a whole year. And that food security increases the family’s well being by so much;” (https://www.facebook.com/philippinenewscanada/videos/60444045 00644 72/).
The humanitarian efforts of the INC were not left unnoticed by representatives of the Canadian Government.
Senator Dennis Glen Patterson expressed through a video: “I’m very pleased to bring greetings from the government of Canada and to congratulate you on your program, your outreach to the homeless and those living in shelter as part of your Aid to Humanity Project,” (https://www.facebook.com/lglesiaNiCristoNewsandUpdates/videos/1171542226358939/).
Mr. Kevin Lamoureux, Member of Parliament, Winnipeg North (Manitoba, Canada) enthused, “The Church Of Christ [Iglesia Ni Cristo] has demonstrated such strong leadership in caring for people;” (https://www.facebook.com/lglesiaNiCristoNewsandUpdates/videos/6971119840595 74/).
The INC has held Aid to Humanity events many times before.
“This started years ago already. We have done lingaps [outreach activities] like this and greater than this. [Like in] Time Square New York. [We've] done one in South Africa, [in] North Africa, all throughout Europe. Whenever there are calamities [like] the flooding in Ottowa [and] the flooding in Gatnu. When there were fires in Fort Mac [McMurray, Alberta, Canada]. Our [Iglesia Ni Cristo] brethren went out there to help. It’s being done in many years. Yes, this will continue for many years;” Brother Bruno added.*
Through the leadership of INC Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo Manalo, members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo in 151 countries and territories will continue with humanitarian efforts in adherence to God’s commands one of which is “Whenever you possibly can, do good to those who need it” (Prov. 3:27 Today’s English Version).
