The Ecclesiastical District of Eastern Samar provided humanitarian aid to the residents of a remote village in Hernani, Eastern Samar, Philippines on October 31, 2023.
This was the district’s participation in the Worldwide Care for Humanity held in celebration of the birthday of Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, the Executive Minister, which fell on the said date.
The Local Congregation of Hernani hosted the charitable event held for the benefit of the people in Nagaja, which is about 60 kilometers from Borongan City where the district office is situated.
“Our district is one with the entire Church in today’s worldwide Care for Humanity,” said Brother Danny Perez, Light of Salvation district overseer. “Through the guidance of our supervising minister, Brother Rico Melgar, we deemed it necessary to hold the event here in Nagaja, which is one of the remotest places in our district. We want to be of help to our countrymen here.”
Nagaja, a barangay in the municipality of Hernani, is a coastal area. One of the challenges its residents face is the danger brought about by frequent typhoons.
“I felt hopeless when recently our whole house was washed away by a typhoon,” said one of the residents, Luz Ayon by name. She and her fellow villagers received care packages containing rice and basic foods.
“Until now, we haven’t fully recovered. To see [Church] members come all the way here was heartwarming. We’re so grateful to you,” Luz added.
Prior to the giving of care packages, the recipients, assembled on a patch of land within their village, were shown a video presentation featuring the various activities in the Church Of Christ.
Another Nagaja villager named Norvin Campo said, “I thank the Church Of Christ for introducing to us what can save us from the greatest calamity to come on Judgment Day. As one of the residents here, seeing people like you, who are sincere in helping others, is inspiring. May your work continue succeeding.” — With reports from Melvy Perez on INC News Section
